Annual Golf Tournament

Situation
Lisa Schiller worked for the Dimensions Healthcare Golf Tournament for 13 years in many capacities. During the last five years, Schiller Communications has served as a consultant to the tournament director. The tournament is the largest fundraising event for Dimensions Healthcare System, a not-for-profit, integrated healthcare system located in suburban Maryland. The tournament takes place at Queenstown Harbour Golf Links on Maryland's eastern shore.

Strategic Thinking & Responsibilities
The goal for most charitable golf tournaments is to sell out, and raise significant dollars. Because both of these goals have been consistently achieved during the event's 13-year history, we must work to ensure that the event maintains its high standards so that participants continue to look forward to our event.

Schiller Communications' responsibilities have been many and varied. We are responsible for public relations, volunteer coordination, and tournament set-up, in addition to assisting with the awards dinner. We serve as a speech writer and edit the tournament program.

Results Delivered
Year after year the tournament continues to be successful. It has raised more than $1.5 million net over its duration. Each year this sold-out tournament is played on two courses to accommodate 250 golfers. Past years' tournaments have included PGA professionals, such as Fred Funk, Tina Barrett, and Donnie Hammond. Business people come from all over the country to participate in this well-run tournament. During the 2004 tournament, Schiller Communications devised a new system for volunteers on tournament day, which created the smoothest flow in the tournament's history.
