Healthy Schools Kick-Off Event

Situation
The staff at Children's National Medical Center (CNMC) had three weeks before the kick-off of a very large program with the District of Columbia School System and The President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. Children's Healthy Schools program brought a health and fitness program directly into the schools, focusing on disease prevention through immunizations, physical fitness through the President's Challenge, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle choices such as avoidance of drugs and tobacco.

Strategic Thinking & Responsibilities
Schiller Communications was hired three weeks before this large kick-off event. With the clock ticking, it was important to quickly find an appropriate keynote speaker. Schiller Communications contacted Miss District of Columbia, Lisa Ferris, who agreed to serve in this role.

Schiller Communications was also responsible for logistics, creating a PowerPoint presentation of the Healthy Schools program, writing a media advisory, press release and speeches, and hiring a photographer.

Results Delivered
Even under extremely tight time constraints, the kick-off event was very successful. Lisa Ferris, Miss District of Columbia, was an excellent choice for keynote speaker. Her platform, preventing childhood obesity, tied in perfectly to the program.

Two media outlets from Washington, D.C. covered the event. The staff at CNMC was very pleased with the outcome of the event.
